Banda de Turistas: The Revelation of Latin American Rock
By James Klein

New York (KPRENSA) – The emerging musical scene is renewed every day, with new bands that that constantly appear on the horizon. The argentinian group Banda de Turistas are one of the revelation groups of Latin American rock of the last year. And now, the band has arrived in the United States.

With lyrics that oscillate between reality, dreams, and the unexpected, the young quintet has managed to grab the attention of the public and the press to present a first one great step: “Magical Radiophonic Heart”, their first full length CD, which was recorded and co-produced with Tuta Towers and mixed by the prestigious producer Mario Caldato Jr. (who has worked with artists such as: Beastie Boys, Blur, Beck, Super Furry Animals, among others)

This month the CD of the band was launched in the United States by Nacional Records. In March, the band will be doing a short tour of US with concerts in Austin, Texas (17 and 18 of March), Houston, Texas (19 of March) and in Chicago (18 of April).

The band arose in 2006 of the fusion of two groups: one instrumental, with inspiration in the music of end of the ’60, and another focused on pop music. The result was a new band nourished with sounds both futuristic and surreal. With that background, the quintet knew well what they wanted to accomplish: to fuse their musical influences.

“Our framework of influences has been completely changed. We always say that we rescue and nourish the last 50 years of rock, passing through all the genres, conventional and unknown. Also, our influences outside of music, such as literature and poetry, are very important. All of these things are part of our universe.” says Bruno Albano (bassist of the band) “Our music is built upon the pop song and , therefore, is music for the world, accessible to any sense and time.”

They have received strong critical praise from “Rolling Stone Argentina” as being the first group in 10 years, and in the history of the magazine, that achieves with a first album great acceptance on the part of the public. The new psychedelic pop quintet knew to maintain with empiricism that commendable redeeming nature in its marvelous first full length CD, Magical Radiophonic Heart. It debuted last year in Argentina and is, without doubt, one of the better CDs of the year of Argentina’s “Rock Nacional”. Banda de Turistas concentrated on the songs: left them to develop in a natural way. And the result is notable: a CD that calls the attention by its coolness, good chemistry and unstructured music.

From this, the band and it’s CD has received heavy rotation by the biggest rock radio stations in Latin America such as Rock and Pop, Mega, La Cien, and Kabul in Argentina, Reactor in México, Megaestación in de Caracas and Miami and and also every independent radios station in Latin America. But, according to Bruno “Music is the mathematic expression of the soul, therefore it transcends scenes, borders, distances and worlds.”
