Soda Stereo expressed “gracias totales” (“total thanks” in English) to it’s fans at the closing of a record breaking tour of 22 concerts through nine Latin American countries and the US which marked the return to the stage of the Argentine band.

More than a million spectators saw the “Me verás volver” tour with the final concert this Friday at the “monumental” River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires where in the last two months there were six concerts by the group that revolutionized Latin American rock.

In the Argentine capital about 360,000 people, 60,000 per concert, witnessed the return of the trio comprised of Gustavo Cerati, Charly Alberti and Zeta Bosio after ten years apart.

“Good evening, Buenos Aires. Welcome to the great rock party” exclaimed Cerati before his guitar played the first chords of “Game of seduction”, the song that opened the concert from the band that formed in 1982 and in 1997 minted the phrase “gracias totales” by way of farewell.

Soda Stereo also performed its hits “En la ciudad de la furia”, “Sobredosis de TV”, “Cuando pase el temblor”, “Persiana americana” y “Nada personal”, among others.

Until the return of Soda, the only the Rolling Stones in 1995 managed to fill five of concerts at river Plate stadium. The trio far exceeded the crowds brought in by other local bands like Los Redonditos de Ricota and Serú Girán.

The “Me verás volver” tour also included concerts in Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, the United States, Colombia, Panama, Venezuela and Peru, plus a concert in the city of A presentation at the city of Córdoba in central Argentina.

In addition to the six concerts in their hometown, Soda Stereo also broke attendance records in Santiago, Chile where about 130,000 people attended two concerts, Guayaquil, Ecuador (41,000), Mexico City (180,000 spectators in four concerts), the United States (44,000 in three dates), Bogota, Colombia (52,000), Panama (22,000), Caracas, Venezuela (52,000) and Lima, Peru (95,000).
